Kevin Higgins Rugby Endowment

The Kevin Higgins Rugby Endowment is the long term investment vehicle for the Cal Poly Rugby Program.  The Endowment, established in 1998 by Rob Fraser, is managed by the Cal Poly Foundation with oversight by the Rugby Alumni Oversight Committee.  Provided sufficient earnings, the program receives the option of taking an annual payout equal to 4.25% of the average Fair Market Value (FMV) of the previous 12 quarters, or reinvesting the payout.

The payout to the team for the 2011-2012 season was $2223.

2010-2011 Fund Performance thru June 30th

  • Gifts: $1,000.00

  • Income (Return on Investment): $ 11,815.64

  • Principal: $45,433.85

  • Spending Reserve: $17,525.69

  • Total Fair Market Value: $62,959.54

 

Lifetime Fund performance through May 2011:

  • Cumulative Gifts: $44,706

  • Cumulative Return on Investment: $26,743

  • Cumulative Payout to Team: ($5229)

  • Total Fair Market Value: $66,219

(*Assumes $5K/year gifts increasing at 3%/year and 7% annual rate of return less 1% management fees.  Payouts reinvested until 2025)

Where should I give?

Current Team (via MRI) - This is for such expenses as equipment, coaching salaries, travel, meals, tournament fees, etc. Funds are controlled by Mustang Rugby, Inc and the Rugby Alumni Chapter and available for use as requested by the Head Coach and the Team President while adhering to the annual operating budget.

Kevin Higgins Rugby Endowment - “The Kevin Higgins Rugby Endowment will provide the long term sustainability to the Rugby Team required to provide adequate funding for top tier coaching, recruitment, equipment and the ability for players to focus their efforts on excellence – on the field and in the classroom.
