Cal Poly lost 13-5 on Saturday against #20 San Diego State. The Mustangs are now 1-1 in January.

San Diego State scored the first points of the game early in the first half with a grubber kick that broke through the Mustang’s defense, which the Aztecs chased down for a try.

Senior Flyhalf Corey McGrillen converted a penalty kick later in the half to cut the SDSU lead to 5-3.

After a long scoring drought into the second half, SDSU earned another try in the corner giving them enough to win.

Cal Poly’s Senior Wing Ivy Adair got in for a try late in the game cutting the lead to 10-8 with eight minutes left, but could not respond after a converted Aztec penalty extended the lead for a final score of 13-8.

Although Cal Poly played tightly on defense and conceded few line breaks, they were held to under 10 points for the first time since playing California almost a year ago.

Cal Poly is scheduled to face #4 Brigham Young this Thursday, January 26 at Damon Garcia Fields in San Luis Obispo. The 1st XV is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 PM. The 2nd XV will play before at 6:15 PM.

The Mustang’s game against BYU is subject to cancellation/ change of venue due to weather. More details to come.
