Cal Poly beats Fresno Rugby Club 40-0

The Cal Poly 1st XV posted their second shutout of the fall preseason on Saturday with a 40-0 win against Fresno Rugby Club. The Mustangs have outscored their fall opponents 143-10 so far.


This was the first away match for the men’s teams, as all three men’s sides traveled to Fresno.

Senior #8 Dustin Mollard had his third straight game with a try, but came off the field in the first half after an injury. Senior Mark Grzanich brings his season try-total to five with an intercepted pass taken for a try in the second half.


Other try-scorers include Senior Hooker Eddie McFarland and Sophomores Isaac Stoll and Sam Bradley.

The 2nd and 3rd XV lost their matches to Fresno State’s 1st and 2nd teams respectively. This is the 2nd XV’s first loss of the season, while the 3rd XV has yet to win a match.

The men’s teams will next play on the road against Santa Barbara Rugby Academy and Cal Poly Pomona on December 3. The women’s team will play their next match at home against UC Santa Barbara on December 4.
