Five Cal Poly Rugby players have earned spots on the 2015-16 USA Men’s Collegiate All-American list.
Senior flyhalf/fullback Kelii Dominguez, senior prop Nathan Sylvia, junior hooker Eddie McFarland, sophomore prop Connor Cudeback and sophomore inside center Alex Wormer were all named Honorable Mentions for the 2015-16 season.
Four out of the five players are expected to return for the 2017 season.
Senior Kelii Dominguez graduated from Cal Poly this June, ending his playing career with Cal Poly Rugby. Senior prop Nathan Sylvia will return with another season of eligibility, while spending this summer playing abroad in Australia with teammates Sean Gorman and Mark Grzanich.
Three of the five named, including Sylvia, were from the Mustangs’ front row. Sylvia, McFarland, and Cudeback started the most out of their respective positions this past season.
Sophomore prop Connor Cudeback earned his second Collegiate All-American Honorable Mention, earning two All-American honors in his two seasons with Cal Poly. Cudeback started in the USA U20s match against Canada earlier this year while also appearing in two matches with Pacific Rugby Premiership team Belmont Shore, starting in one of those appearances.
Sophomore inside center Alex Wormer earned his second honor of the year, as he was named to the D1A California All-Conference team earlier this year. Wormer, who was resting an injured groin early in the season, started his season in a 27-3 win against UC Santa Barbara after being substituted after flyhalf Corey McGrillen was injured early in the match. Since then, Wormer started each game at inside center, with Dominguez moving to flyhalf.
Seniors Kelii Dominguez and Nathan Sylvia also earned a spot on the D1A California All-Conference list.
