Mustangs back at home to take on the Aggies.

After a few weeks off with final quarter exams and spring break, Cal Poly Rugby is back this weekend in the first of their three consecutive D1A matches that will wrap up the regular season. Home against school rivals UC Davis this Saturday, the Mustangs will then travel to Los Angeles to play UCLA, before returning to San Luis Obispo for what should be the playoff qualifier against Central Washington on Saturday 21st April.

This Saturday both teams are coming into the match with a point to prove. Cal Poly’s last match against St Mary’s College, was a one way encounter where the Mustangs never found their feet. UC Davis is in a similar position, yet to secure a victory in D1A this season.

With only room for one lose in this short D1A season, Cal Poly Flyhalf and vice captain Matt Verga knows there is no room error from this point on. “We have high expectations for the club this year and know every game counts if we want to make the playoffs” Verga said. “We’ve had a few guys coming back from injuries so these past few weeks have been full of a lot of hard work preparing ourselves UC Davis and the final two rounds.”

Coach Burnett has announced a relatively unchanged side to the one that played St Mary’s almost a month ago. The only change is winger Cody Perez is back in the side after recovering from an ankle injury he sustained at training.
