The Mustangs showed up Saturday committed to ending the season on a positive note and topped the Claremont Colleges Dragons 51-31.
From kickoff the Mustangs showed they were the better team by owning the majority of ball possession, being the more physical team, and executing down the stretch. After Cal Poly had the clear advantage in the first forty, Claremont Colleges picked up the intensity and proved they would not go down without a fight.
The Mustangs had a balanced attack between the forwards and backs as shown by the dispersion of players and positions scoring. Senior prop Aaron Bordenave, senior hooker Joe Saldana, junior flanker David Schaefer, senior center Stu Sharpe, senior center David Zealear, sophomore center Cody Perez, and freshman fullback Dom Ferri all found the try zone for Cal Poly. Dom Ferri also converted on three of those tries.
Cal Poly finishes the first CPL season with a record of 3-4 and in fifth place out of the eight teams in the Pacific Division.
The Mustangs have their focus set on taking a large step forward next year and would like to thank everyone for the support throughout the year.
