Fourth year utility back Stuart Sharpe and third year scrum half Colin Malcolm will be representing Cal Poly on the Southern California All-Star team at the National Collegiate All-Star Tournament. The tournament will be held on June 11 and 12 in Colorado. Southern California is attempting to retain its title from last year at the tournament. As Stuart says, ”Our team looks strong, and while we still have a lot of work to do, there is incredible potential for success and a repeat of the ‘Southern Cal Rugby Champion’ title.”
Both players look forward to the opportunity to represent Cal Poly Rugby on a national level. Colin said, ”I’m absolutely stoked to be able to represent Cal Poly and the Southern California Griffins in the All-Star National Tournament.” Both Stu and Colin see this opportunity as a chance to not only improve their personal skills, but also bring their experiences back to the other players at Cal Poly.” More than anything I want to see what the top level of competition is in the rugby world. The best guys from this tournament are the guys that will be playing for the American Eagles in the future. I want to see how the game is played at this level and bring it back to Cal Poly” says Colin. Stu similarly wants to bring his knowledge back to the program. “Ultimately, this experience will help make me a better player so that I, as a veteran, will be able to bring my knowledge and skills back to our practices in San Luis Obispo and pass these assets over to the younger players in the club.”
