In an extremely physical and high scoring match, Cal Poly came away the victors over SLO Men’s Club 57-26. The endurance and quickness of the Mustangs gave San Luis Obispo Men’s some trouble. However, the physicality and size of SLO Men’s caused problems for the young Mustangs side. In the end, Cal Poly’s youthful legs and relentless pressure proved too much to handle. The competitive nature of the game and positive aftermatch were both successful; the future of this tradition is bright.

Mustangs Come Up Short
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010Saturday was a perfect rugby day, but the Mustangs came up just short of the UCLA Bruins in a 24-19 loss. Cal Poly showed tremendous heart throughout the entire game, but just committed too many mistakes at key times allowing the Bruins to capitalize. Excellent performances were put forward by flanker David Schaefer who barreled his way into the try zone and prop Aaron Bordenave who found the try zone twice. Senior eight-man Alex Murchison was two for three on the day for conversions.
Seniors Thomas Miller, Conrad Drinkwater, and Alex Murchison played their last rugby for the Cal Poly Mustangs and all three played inspired rugby. It was a tough loss as it meant the culmination of the season and forfeiting the opportunity to take a trip to Atlanta for the Round of 16. However, the Mustangs are looking forward to getting the end of a rebuilding year wrapped up and carrying their experience with them in preparing for next season.
